Surfing Lessons and Daily Habits for Tech Leadership

Vinicius Romano explains how outdoor sports and weekend digital disconnect sustain his executive leadership at Camerite.

Vinicius Romano shares his daily balance between the ocean, family, and technology. As an active surfer and skater based in Itajaí, he draws direct parallels between reading ocean waves and corporate risk management.

Vinicius Romano, CEO of Camerite, spoke on Marketing - The Podcast with Bruno Gimenes about his personal journey, daily habits, and how sports influence his executive leadership style. The episode covers various aspects of his corporate career while highlighting the principles that guide his routine outside the office.

In the video above, Romano explains that although he has worked in the tech industry for nearly 25 years, he breaks the standard mold of the field. While many peers spend their downtime gaming, Romano has always favored outdoor activities and both team and individual sports, such as soccer, skateboarding, and, more recently, surfing.

Moving to the Coast in Itajaí

Having lived on the coast for 10 years and settled in Itajaí, Romano fulfilled a long-held dream of living by the sea. The foundation he built skateboarding as a child made learning to surf easier, helping him overcome initial doubts about picking up the sport later in life.

"Back in my childhood I had some exposure, but I always loved playing outside in the streets. I never liked being cooped up indoors," Romano explains, contrasting his lifestyle choices with gaming culture.

Risk Management and Business Parallels

For Romano, ocean dynamics offer direct parallels to corporate challenges. The unpredictable nature of waves and changing wind conditions demands daily adaptability, persistence, and sharp analytical skills in uncertain environments.

"The ocean is completely different every single day. You never know what you'll encounter out there; it's one challenge after another, and you only catch waves if you refuse to give up," Romano emphasizes. He also highlights the importance of calculated risk: "Anyone taking up these sports needs to be mindful of safety, because you are putting yourself out there."

Structuring Daily Routine and Digital Disconnect

As a father of two young children, Romano structures his mornings to balance family life, executive demands, and continuous learning in computer vision and artificial intelligence for software development. Surfing at dawn serves as mental preparation for workplace decision-making.

To safeguard focus and family time, Romano sets firm digital boundaries and keeps a low profile on social media. "On weekends, I don't touch the computer—I won't even look at it, I just don't touch it at all," Romano says regarding his time and energy management discipline.
