Arrest for 'Good Night Cinderella' Scheme in East São Paulo
A man was arrested on charges of drugging, robbing, and sexually assaulting at least two women in East São Paulo. Using the well-known 'Good Night Cinderella' scheme, the suspect also faked conversations on the victims' phones to simulate consent and deflect blame, sending messages as if he were the victim, saying they had “drunk a lot” and that “the night was very good.”
Marcos dos Santos, 43, was identified after one of the victims reported to the 7th Women's Defense Precinct (DDM) that she had experienced a memory lapse after going out with him. She woke up to bank transfers in her name and symptoms of mental confusion. Toxicological analyses confirmed the ingestion of clonazepam.
The investigation revealed that Marcos dos Santos approached victims by offering job opportunities at events. After drugging them, he accessed their cell phones, which he unlocked using the victim's fingerprint, to send forged messages and carry out financial transactions. The suspect had already been arrested in April for attempting to rape his sister-in-law and has a history of robbery.
Police believe more victims may exist, given the sophistication of the criminal method, which created an entire narrative for the victim to think they had consumed a lot of alcohol and remembered nothing. Rodrigo Bocardi warned about the dangers of accepting drinks from strangers and the importance of remaining vigilant.
Truck Traffic Causes Damage on Diadema Street
Residents of Rua Estados Unidos, in Diadema, report intense and irregular heavy truck traffic on a steep and narrow road, despite signs prohibiting two-axle vehicles. The situation has caused damage to properties, electrical wiring, and water pipes, in addition to accidents.
According to residents, truckers use the street as a shortcut to avoid a traffic light on a new avenue. A building superintendent in the area stated that children cannot play in the street and that one resident's house cracked due to vehicle vibrations. Rollover accidents have already been reported, according to the population.
Residents contacted the Mobility Secretariat, council members, and the mayor of Diadema but have received no response so far. The Diadema City Hall reported that it conducts inspections and issues fines, as well as educational actions, but there is no forecast for closing the street. Rodrigo Bocardi criticized the ineffectiveness of the measures, emphasizing that fines should be applied to ensure residents' safety.
Drunk Driving Accidents: Three Cases and the Persistence of Impunity
Three serious drunk driving accidents were reported in São Paulo and Greater São Paulo, resulting in deaths and severe injuries, and exposing the ineffectiveness of penalties for these crimes.
On Rodovia Anhanguera, a drunk driver overturned his car, causing the death of three people, including two women who had accepted a ride from a stranger. The driver, Jefferson Henrique Oliveira Pires, was arrested. The victims' bodies are still awaiting identification at the IML.
In Itapevi da Serra, driver Luiz Paulo Carneiro, with two previous drunk driving offenses (in 2013 and this January), ran over and killed retired teacher Zilda Souza Santana Vieira, 57, on the sidewalk. In Guarulhos, resident Alice Rodrigues reported whitish water coming from taps, stating that neighbors fell ill. Sabesp reported that it sent a technical team to analyze the problem.
In Santos, on Rua Nabucco de Araújo, resident Silvia Sales complained about the poor quality of asphalt repairs after Sabesp's works, which repeatedly sinks, with the street having been dug up ten times in two years. The company responded that it made temporary repairs and is preparing the definitive repair, in alignment with other concessionaires. Garbage Collection Halted in Cotia and Embu das Artes Leaves Streets Piled with Debris
Residents of Cotia and Embu das Artes face accumulated garbage in the streets due to the halt of collection services by the company Enob. The employees' strike is motivated by the lack of transfer of salaries and benefits, such as FGTS and pensions, in addition to fleet maintenance issues, with reports of four broken trucks.
