Flamengo Files CBF Complaint Over Refereeing After Santos Draw

Along with contesting the refereeing against Santos, the club faces calls to address Rossi's errors and Leonardo Jardim's tactics.

Flamengo has lodged an official complaint with the CBF against referees Anderson Daronco and Rodolfo Tosqui Marques following a 2-2 draw with Santos. Analyst Bernardo Ramos examines on-field controversies, upcoming derby absences, and calls for changes in goal.

Flamengo is heading to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to lodge a formal complaint against referee Anderson Daronco on the pitch and Rodolfo Tosqui Marques in the VAR booth following a 2-2 draw against Santos at Vila Belmiro. The result felt like a defeat for the team, which was cruising comfortably with a 2-0 lead before letting the equalizer slip through.

In the video above, Bernardo Ramos analyzes the officiating performance and its immediate impact on the remainder of the Campeonato Brasileiro campaign. The club released a statement highlighting telling statistics: Flamengo receives the second-highest number of red cards among all 20 Série A clubs, despite ranking 17th in total fouls committed. For Ramos, these figures expose excessive harshness and bias against the Rubro-Negro.

Major errors and VAR delays

Among the most disputed decisions, Ramos points to a studs-up challenge to Carrascal's shin by Real, which was punished only with a yellow card instead of a straight red. On the first penalty awarded against the club, while a penalty was warranted, issuing a red card to Jorginho violated the rules, which called only for a yellow. The officiating duo also took 10 minutes to review the play at the monitor, which Ramos characterized as a sign of complete unpreparedness.

The second penalty conceded by Flamengo also drew sharp criticism. In Ramos's assessment, Luiz Araújo's contact with Gabriel was standard incidental play and did not warrant a foul. Furthermore, Leonardo Jardim was slow to make substitutions and unraveled the lineup when Flamengo was already playing with a man down.

Internal accountability and Rossi's blunders

Despite having valid reasons to protest to the CBF, Ramos emphasizes that the club must demand internal accountability from goalkeeper Rossi. The shot-stopper committed a crucial blunder trying to play out from the back instead of clearing the ball, coughing up possession for Santos's first goal. In the analyst's view, José Boto and Leonardo Jardim must step in and give an opportunity to André, the goalkeeper signed from Gil Vicente who has yet to receive playing time.

The damage extends across the league table and preparation for the next round. Suspended by the wrongful dismissal, Jorginho will miss the Fla-Flu derby, joining Everton Araújo and Arrascaeta on the sidelines. With Palmeiras defeating Bahia 1-0 to close the gap on the Rubro-Negro, the Brasileirão title race tightens significantly ahead of crucial matchups against Fluminense and Bahia.
